Callum Gallagher

Callum Gallagher (he/him) is a first-year PhD student in Art and Architectural History at the University of Virginia studying 19th-century European colonial art and the South Pacific, with a particular interest in print cultures.

Before arriving at UVA, Callum received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours – First Class) from the University of Sydney in 2023. His previous work considered the naturalisation of European mythologies to the Australian landscape as part of the process of settler-colonial nation formation.

 

In 2025 he curated the exhibition Ida Rentoul Outhwaite: How the Fairies Got to Australia in collaboration with the University of Sydney’s Rare Books and Special Collections, and in early 2026 he curated Pan/Nationalism: The Studio, Jugend, and Art Nouveau for the Power Institute at the Schaeffer Fine Arts Library. He also writes art criticism for Melbourne based platform MEMO Review.
