Drawing of a tea plantation in China

This conference will bring together leading scholars of various disciplines to present their current research on tea culture and science across the globe. In conjunction with the conference, related activities will include: a semester-long exhibition of tea ware at the Fralin Museum in spring 2026, a small exhibition of prints, historic and contemporary books related to tea at the UVa Library, a short residency of an artist, and an excursion to the Japanese Garden and Teahouse at Morven for conference participants. The events will provide students and faculty across the university and the public community opportunities to learn more about tea and its multifaceted linkage to human consumption, experience, and lived environment in both historical and contemporary contexts.
