This event invites the community to a roundtable on discussing the urgencies of building safe spaces for our migrant sisters and brothers under pressing immigration issues. How can we continue to insist and resist on creating spaces for all migrant communities to feel welcomed and supported? How do we redefine sanctuaries in more expanded ways of understanding the kind of solidarity and support migrant communities need? This roundtable will generate urgent questions to ask ourselves as well as invite participants to provide communal discussions on addressing urgent immigration issues in our communities.
This program is a part of Federico Cuatlacuatl's exhibition at 1708 Gallery titled Skin of Stars, Sacredness of Disobedience, on display until October 18, 2026.
Skin of Stars, Sacredness of Disobedience centers the current endurance of immigration persecutions experienced by Nahua diasporic communities. The strength, defiance, and spirit of resistance manifests in transborder Nahuales and ancestral force. The persistence and insistence to continue defying imperialistic borders is highlighted in drawings, sculptures, and video.
